I used to do a lot of electronic music, and I made much use of aleatoric processes. Some processes are purely reactive, like a harpsichord making a tone when you depress a key. But some are interactive, meaning that you do not only cause the result but uniquely influence its quality. An aleatoric process is one that is influenced by design but also by chance. In one of my synthesizers, for example, parameters specified by me would be modified according to a "random" object drawing on the computer's clock pulse and a complex formula to produce a unique melody or tone...
It is we, autonomous human spirits with the power of choice, that represent the element of chance in god's design. Our forms are determined by our genetics and by evolution; we, in the course of our lives, are the wild-card input that makes humanity so unique, wonderful and perplexing. We can live and grow and flourish and pass on our genetics to the next generation; or we can whiz around and squander our gifts. Yet some who live short, brilliant lives influence other lives through the witchcraft of culture. It is a wonderful world indeed.
God is good; and being a good person (which involves strength and individuality as much as it does compassion and forbearance), means finding the best in yourself and pursuing it with dedication and compassion. That is godly.
